Bringing together young professionals and networking community

Why do we do it

At GÉANT, we believe it is crucial to engage, foster and develop future IT professionals. This sentiment holds true now, more than ever, as the sector undergoes a period of considerable growth.  As we are committed to the up-skilling of Europe’s future IT workforce, we have set up the GÉANT Future Talent Programme.

Future Talent Programme is the gateway to young professionals to meet the European and global networking community. Future Talent Programme offers young professionals an opportunity to grow and develop their skills through free webinar series. Furthermore, it rewards the learning by offering free admission to international, prestigious events to those, whose work was recognised by an independent panel.

What do we do

Within the Future Talent Programme, Learning and Development offered two initiatives. Both targeted TNC18, an international conference for global networking professionals, and both are made possible through a collaboration between GÉANT L&D, GÉANT project partners, young professionals and TNC Programme Committee.

Initiative 1: Lightning Talk Challenge – Get on Stage!

Focus: presentation and public speaking skills

Lightning Talk Challenge is a challenge for young professionals to get their ideas on stage of the TNC Lightning talk programme. Nominated by GÉANT project partners, participants undergo series of training events such as webinars, f2f support and coaching to help master presentation skills. These events are organised to increase the chance of participants’ submissions to be accepted by TNC Programme Committee. The training events also prepare participants for a superb delivery at the actual event. All participants benefit from the initiative by developing and improving their presentation skill. Finalists of the Challenge receive full financial support for delivering their talk at the TNC.

Initiative 2: Poster Pursuit – Clarify your message! Visualise the meaning!

Focus:  data and idea visualisation

Poster Pursuit is an initiative for young professionals to visualise their ideas and take part in TNC poster presentation. Similar to the Lightening Talk Challenge, young professionals are nominated for Poster Pursuit by GÉANT project partners. In course of the initiative, participants undergo series of training events such as webinars, f2f support and coaching to help learn data visualisation techniques. These events are aimed to increase the chance of participants’ submissions to be accepted by TNC Programme Committee. All participants benefit from the initiative by developing and improving their visualisation skills. Finalists of the Pursuit receive full financial support for representing their poster at the TNC. The Best Poster award is also awarded to a poster with the highest number of ‘likes’ collected during a live, open, social media voting pursuit organised during TNC.
